Today I thought I would give you a glimpse of a little slice of garden next to the pond. This area is a little on the wild side because I don't spend much time tending to it. Anything that is planted there better be tough! It only gets watered when it is planted or when it rains. The soil is a terrible, mucky, wet clay and if all that weren't enough, the deer nibble on almost everything that gets planted out by the pond. But I've managed to find some plants that are surviving!
Planted in this grouping are Siberian Iris, Mexican petunia, Elephant ears, Society Garlic, Dracaena (spikes) a Banana tree and my favorite plant du Jour Perennial Hibiscus. The Botanical name is Hibiscus Moscheutos. The variety I have planted is Disco Belle 'George Riegel'. The flowers are huge! If you can see the yardstick beside the flower, it measures about 10 inches in diameter. It only has one flower on it right now but lots of buds and will bloom all summer right in to the fall. I love it because it has such an old fashioned feel to it. If you are looking for an easy plant to grow with showy flowers this might be the plant for you!
