Saturday, Robert, I, and some of our grandkids went to a large family get together that his uncle holds every year. Robert's oldest son, Les, drove his family and Grandma, while we drove our car. So, on the way there (a 2 hour trip), we goofed around, bugging each other on our cell phones. Switching up who called who, hanging up on each other, switching phones, so the person in the other car wouldn't know who was actually calling them...just generally acting like a bunch of kids - LOL! We made an adventure out of the journey, one we probably won't forget.
On the other hand, we could've driven the two hours, dreading the trip before the destination...and then, of course, the trip home. Sometimes, we major on the minors and we miss out on the joy we can have in the journey. We all hear the cliche' "Stop and smell the roses." But I think we're desensitized to it's meaning, because we hear it often.
So here, look at me...are you listening? Take time to enjoy the little things in life. The distractions can actually become the main attraction, if we look for an opportunity to make someone else smile. In doing so, we can't help but find a smile on our own faces.
This comes from me, a workaholic, who would be happy to stay in her home in front of the computer, and have food and sunshine piped in...and who needs to be reminded over and over again to "TAKE JOY IN THE JOURNEY!"
